Ways to Give

Every gift is a step towards enriching lives and empowering futures. We invite you to explore the diverse ways you can contribute to the success of our students, faculty, and the broader CAHNRS community. Whether it’s through scholarships, research support, or program funding, your generosity is the key to unlocking potential and fostering innovation. Let’s work together to find the best way for you to make a meaningful difference that resonates with you and your family.

One of the easiest way to make a donation to CAHNRS is by check. Your check should be made payable to Washington State University. Please include a brief note instructing us which department or priority you would like to designate your gift to. You can learn more about where to give here.

Please send checks to:

CAHNRS Alumni and Friends
PO Box 646228
Pullman, WA 99164-6228

Cash gifts are also gladly accepted, though for security reasons, the university prefers that donations be sent via a check or given online.

You can establish an electronic funds transfer (EFT) to automatically transfer funds from your checking or savings account on a regular schedule. Download and complete the EFT form (PDF) and mail it to WSU Foundation with a voided check. You can choose the 1st or 15th of each month for your deduction. For more information, please contact the WSU Foundation’s Advancement Services department at 509-335-1686.

If you are an active, self-employed farmer using cash basis accounting, there can be significant tax benefits from giving commodities instead of cash or check donation.

All Gifts of Commodities to WSU are welcome. Here’s how it works:

  • For Non-Farmers: Your commodity donations are greatly appreciated. We will provide a receipt for your charitable deduction.
  • For Farmers: By donating commodities, such as unsold inventory from the previous year, you may gain more than a standard charitable tax deduction. This method allows you to deduct all production costs and avoid federal income tax and self-employment tax on the value of your gift.

Maximizing Impact with Grain Donations:

  • Procedure: To ensure maximum tax benefits, direct the local grain elevator to issue the receipt to the WSU Foundation. Inform the Foundation about the specific area within WSU you wish to support.
  • Foundation’s Role: The WSU Foundation will act as the seller, ensuring your gift is effectively utilized for its intended purpose.

Your gifts of commodities play a vital role in advancing CAHNRS’s educational and research endeavors. Together, we can sow seeds of growth and success for our students and faculty.

The College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences is committed to supporting and honoring our donors’ wishes. Your giving plan will be tailored to meet your interests and needs. Please contact one of our directors for more information about giving to CAHNRS and WSU Extension.

One of the Land Legacy program’s primary goals is to preserve and sustain farms, ranches, orchards, forests, and other productive land. Working farms remain working farms, and the University manages the land for long-term sustainability.

All properties go through a careful review to make sure that the gift will be beneficial to all parties.

Land gifts can be designated to benefit virtually any of the University’s activities; you can direct your gift’s support toward what matters most to you.

Many employers will match their employees’ donations to Washington State University. Some employers will even match the gifts of retired employees, spouses, parents, and even contributions from their board of directors. All matched funds will be designated to the area to which you originally contributed your gift.
